Welcome, Welcome, Welcome! If you are HERE, then Welcome...if you are not HERE...

THEN WHERE ARE YOU?????

Hello, everyone! Welcome to Redeemed by D.S.ign!

"Something New From Something Old! That is my motto!"

My name is Patricia Davis-Striegler, hence D.S.! I also dwell in the awesome land of Dripping Springs, TX, hence, another DS!

Well, I know this is going to sound a little corny, but...here goes!
I have been blessed with a vision…(it's true) I can see things that have been tossed, trashed, thought useless by many, transformed into something beautiful, useful, unique, one-of-a-kind treasures! (I can see the end product in my mind's eye!!Wow!!)
I pray these born-again items will bring a touch of the Redeemed to your life!

I love working with old, rusted discarded tin and aluminum, old wood fencing and barn wood, old rusted barbed wire, old vintage jewelry and beads, old plates, etc., just about anything that has been labeled “useless“, “no good“, “junk“ or “trash”!

I am also 'into' mixed-media (acrylics) interpretations of Scripture in folk art, repose, and mosaics, and clay. Also, acrylics painted on different and unusual surfaces and altered anything (books, journals, etc).

I will be adding more and more items as I am beginning a new artistic venture at Etsy.com! A great place to find one-of-a-kind handmade items! Please come by and check out my shop and please feel free to purchase anything you see! LOL!.

My shop is located at redeemedbydsign.etsy.com

Please come back often and check out my site for new items and information.

And remember, “Nothing is “just junk” in the hands of a creator.”
"Only the heart knows how to find what is precious.”

Hopefully, I Am Back!

Hello, Folks!
Well, I think I am back online! My sister, Pam, gave me another computer, so I am putting all my "stuff" into it right now! I hope this one lasts a little longer than the other one. I feel like all I ever say here is, "I am internet-less!"
Well, at least this time I had my Palm phone! At least I could keep up with the posts, etc, on my sites. It wouldn't let me do a whole lot on them though! Couldn't post or heart anyone, or blog or leave messages at some of them! So I did what I could, but I guess that wasn't enough, since it seems i lost my one follower! Where are you Judy???? I really didn't think you would leave me??? LOL! Oh, well, I guess I am not exciting or interesting enough!!!
Like I said, I 'HAD MY PALM!'
That is a whole other story now!! Last week, Thursday to be exact, I left with my brother, Louis and his wife, Gloria, for Bryan, TX and then on to Port Neches for 2 graduations, one at A&M and the other at Lamar University! Well, Friday we, of course, were running late, but we had to make a pit stop, just before getting to my sisters in Port Neches, and I left my purse in the bathroom????? I never do that, but this time I did! When we got to my sister's house about 15 minutes later, I realized I had left it at the Jack in the Box, so she called them and they found it and put it in the safe until we got there. When I picked it up on our way to Lamar U. I checked my purse and my palm phone and all my money were gone! That just felt ughhhhhhhhhhhh! I think I just went into shock! After the ceremony, my Brothers, Louis and Kenneth and their wives, Gloria and Brenda, went there to talk to the manager for me....they drove back to Bryan and I stayed at Pam's in Port Neches until the morning, when we went to the grad at A&M.....the manager looked at the surveilance video and said he would look further into it when he had time.....haven't heard anything yet???
Life!!!! Gotta love it!!!
The rest of the trip was great! The graduations went well! Great visit with my family! Came home with another computer. So I am trying to get it set up, like I said before...I will post more later!
That's my story!
God Bless,
Patricia

From Somewhere Over the Moon!

Hi, My Dear Friends! (Br)
It sure is quiet over here! No pictures, no sayings to add, it's so quiet in this internet-less place I'm in, I can't even hear myself think! (Just Kidding)
Here is something I read a while back that will give you an idea of where I am....(Br)
"There is a place I travel when I want to roam, and nobody knows it but me. (Br)
The roads don't go there and the signs stay home, and nobody knows it but me. (Br)
It's far, far away and way, way afar, it's over the moon and sea, and wherever you're going, that's wherever you are, and nobody knows it but me."(Br)
OK! (Br)
I'll be back as soon as I can! But until then......(Br)
SSSHHHH............(br)
Don't tell anyone where I am....(Br)
It's a secret! (Br)

Bare With Me - I Am Internet-less!

Hi, Everybody?
I don't know who all keeps up with me, (please sign up if you do to 'follow me' so I will know), but I've been a little out of whack since Easter!
I've been having some pretty bad back problems lately...almost feels like I'm breaking in half...needless to say, it kinda slows the crazy old woman down!
Yes, sometimes situations make me feel a little bit crazy, hopefully people around me think its in a 'semi-ok' way! and not a totally 'looney-bin' way!
What has been adding to this 'situation' is my internet is down!
Actually I don't even have a 'remote' idea how or what happened to it' Went to town and left it with my granddaughter. It was fine, came back a couple of hours later, tried to get online, and up pops a screen saying "You have no remote access server without it we cannot connect to your computer"!
So, my son tried tofix it, to no avail. Seems I need a windows set-up cd, which I don't have. I'll have to get it from my sister (wher the computer came from).
So until then, please bare with me!
I am posting & e-mailing through my palm phone!
So, no pics, or new videos or tutorials at this time. A little to hard for me to do, if it is even possible.
So God Bless
Until........
Trish

Papier Mache Baby Gifts

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Hi! Everyone!

I am soo excited! I have finally come to a place in all of my computer re-vamping...that I can say "Whew"! OK, I know I am not totally finished, but I've at least come to a "stopping point", or should I say "pausing point"...

I am fixing to e-mail Beth and let her know that I am not on our blog list (on our Etsy Austin Blog). I am happy with it now!

I am also posting below the pictures of the Baby Shower Gifts I made for my niece, B.J.! And that is a whole other story! As you can see below, they were for a "girl"! Two doctors told her unmistakeably that she was having a "girl"! Well, what to her surprise, when out popped a "BOY!" She did not even have one piece of clothing for a boy! The room was done totally in "Tinkerbell!" Needless to say, it all has to be changed! they are keeping it all for the next little one, who they hope will be a "girl"!

For all of those who are even remotely interested in my doings and going...I am going to be posting my To-Do-Lists just on the blog, so please continue to follow me! You will just have to click on the link and you can see all of them on the right side of the Blog!

Here are my Pics of The Baby Gift!

They are Paper Mache! Something from Nothing, isn't that my motto! Well, I really do that, folks! The other is a peg hanger that is painted to match the Butterfly, Flower, and Heart! They are painted and decoupaged with tinkerbell!
(The paste I use and which I prefer to use, is a mixture of 1 part water and 1 part flour. the oldest recipe I know of. I tried to use elmers and water...yuck! Hated it! This is what I have always used, and it works great!) (ok if there are typos, I am having a horrible day typing, LOL!--I will check later)

The Finished Products!

Material for the project.

Step 1 - Patterns!

Cut out patterns in cardboard and tape together...

Cover the entire strcture with strips of newsprint dipped in paste...

Let completely dry and paint and decoupage...

SXSW EVENT:
The Etsy Team had a wonderful showing at the SXSW event, here in Austin, TX... don't know the exact results, but will soon! Our next meeting is April 14, 2009 at 6:30 p.m. at Fiddler's Hearth! I am going to do my best to be at this one! So many things have slowed my meeting all these awesome women, but I think I am am just about done with all them or at least I have done a good showing!

*************************************************

One of the hindrances I had was I did not drive. That is a long story, but I will make it very short here! Seven years ago I had Spinal Meningitis and was in a coma for over a week. The Lord brought me through this illness by the prayers of soo many people across the world! By His grace, I came out of this horrible illness without any real side effects. One was I had forgotten a few things, and another was I was having some anxiety attacks and some claustrophobia, other than that all was well! Thank god, because it could have been a lot worse! Anyway, I did not drive for a good while. Just in the last year, I have felt like I can drive again! I renewed my license and am ready, just need to practice a little before I do and I will be ready to rock and roll with all of you wonderful ladies of the Etsy Austin Team!!! Look out, Austin! Here she comes!!! LOL!!!

Anyway, that was not the whole story, but that's for another post or time! Gonna leave it at that for right now!! God is good!!! That's my story and I'm sticking to it!!!

*************************************************

OK, my List of To-Do's is taking a real cut here! I will only post my 3 top ones and if you are interested in reading what I am up to, you will have to actually go to my list at The Blog (this is for my RSS feeds) RedeemedByD. S.ign.Blogspot.com

"The Stars At Night Are BIG and BRIGHT, Deep in the Heart of Texas!" (EtsyAustin, SXSW, The ExTerminators)

Encourage yourself today in the Lord and know that through God Almighty you can be made into a masterpiece even if you do not believe it's possible. God is in the restoration business and He is able to take the brokenness that we sometimes feel and turn it into a glorious work of art.

"But now, O Lord, thou art our Father; we are the clay, and thou our potter; and we all are the work of thy hand" Isa. 64:8

*************************************************

Oh, my goodness! It's so bright tonight! The stars are all shining here in Austin! The brightest star out tonight is The Etsy Austin Team! at SXSW!

The Etsy Austin Team is sooo razzamatazz! X 10...(definition: fantastical, awesometastical X 100, fabulous, sensational!) (Mariah's Dictionary).

Last week-end and this week-end, SoCo has and is being razzamatazzed! by the Etsy Austin Team! Their Booth, in front of Hill Country Weavers is drawing lots of Austin attention! The Handmade theme is what is happening here!
There are 23 Etsy Artisans showing at this booth! The eclecticness of the wares should bring a mix of just about every type of shopper to this booth! From soap made from goat's milk to a herd of stuffed animals, jewelry of all kinds, beautiful silk scarves and little tutus for the young ones! So much more to be found here! Check it out! Go down to South Congress to Hill Country Weavers!! You will see a big banner that says, ETSY AUSTIN! and some really wonderful crafters and artists.
Oh, by the way, there is also a demo on spinning wool going on tonight!! How cool is that!
Razzamatazzical!!!!

*************************************************

Another star that is shining bright tonight is my son, Kevin Striegler! He is an extra in the new indie film, The ExTerminators, which opened last night at The Paramount Theater! You may have seen Kevin in a commercial for ABC Pest and Lawn w/ his boss and owner Mr. Jenkins. Kevin is a supervisor at ABC. ABC was used in the movie as the company the three women worked at and the cover for their actual business, exterminating husbands! Well, I hope they didn't cut his parts!

Check out the Blog Review here:

Blogged at: http://community2.myfoxaustin.com/

AUSTIN is the REAL star of EXTERMINATORS

I attended the premiere of Exterminators last night at the Paramount Theater.

The film stars Heather Graham, Jennifer Coolidge and austin's own Amber Heard, among others.

IMDB's description of the film is this: Three women who meet in an anger-management class decide to form a traditional business with very untraditional methods.

Basically, after an accidental "extermination," the gals decide help other ladies "exterminate" bad men from their lives.

The accidental extermination involves an abusive hubby played by local musician Charlie Robison(whose song "Barlight" is used in the film). I didn't know he was an actor. He was decent.

I was actually impressed with most of the acting in the film. And, I gotta be honest with you, I thought this movie was going to suck. So, I was pleasantly surprised when I found my self laughing out loud a few times.

Favorite line? As Jennifer and Amber's characters walk into the Herb Bar(located on Mary just off of Congress) a woman exits and Jennifer says, "I think she douched with patchouli."

I was also pleasantly surprised by how much of Austin is featured in the film. The ladies work at ABC Pest and Lawn. They hang at Nastys(which in the movie is located off the alley where Lucky Lounge and Fado have a back entrance). Halcyon on 4th is prominently featured in one scene. Shiner beer signs are everywhere. The gals sip on Fireman's 4 and Lone Star. Gotta love that. Heather and Matthew Settle's characters dine at Boticelli's on South Congress and in one scene, the Continental Club's sign is clearly visible. OH, and the movie gets rolling with a scene shot at Scarborough's(which I believe I blogged about last year while they were shooting said scene) and concludes with a scene shot at the Texan Motel on Burnett.

So, anyway, I can't call this flick a MUST SEE at the theater. But it's definitely worth a rental.

*************************************************

Two Bright Shining Stars to Check Out this week-end!!! Have Fun!!! Hope to see you there!

SAVING THE BROKEN PIECES

At the Royal Palace of Tehran in Iran, you can see one of the most
beautiful mosaic works in the world. The ceilings and walls flash like
diamonds with multifaceted reflections.

Originally, when the palace was designed, the architect specified huge
sheets of mirrors on the walls. When the first shipment arrived from Paris,
they found to their horror that the mirrors were shattered. The contractor
threw them in the trash and brought the sad news to the architect.

Amazingly, the architect ordered all of the broken pieces collected, then
smashed them into tiny pieces and glued them to the walls to become a
mosaic of silvery, shimmering, mirrored bits of glass.

Broken to become beautiful! It's possible to turn your scars into stars.
It's possible to be better because of the brokenness. It is extremely rare
to find in the great museums of the world objects of antiquity that are
unbroken. Indeed, some of the most precious pieces in the world are only
fragments that remain a hallowed reminder of a glorious past.

Never underestimate God's power to repair and restore.

Encourage yourself today in the Lord and know that through God Almighty you
can be made into a masterpiece even if you do not believe it's possible.
God is in the restoration business and He is able to take the brokenness
that we sometimes feel and turn it into a glorious work of art.

Well, I finally got it done! I opened my new shop at Etsy! THE JUNK-JUNKIES' JUNK SHOP! I have been working on it for several days. I just love it. It has been a dream of mine for a long time to have a real shop like this. Where artists, and crafters can come and find what they need to complete a project!

Go and check it out!

Well I guess I am going to have to go, but I am going on over to Ruebee for just a minute. I have to work on my SS class and some other things, too.

See you later, alligator!

May Posts! An Exciting Month!

OK! Here goes! Pt3 of May!
Well, last week-end, the ladies of our Church got in our van and went to H.O.M.E. Church in Johnson City (I guess you could call it our father church, we are a daughter work of theirs at this time). We went to a beautiful luncheon and tea there! We had a wonderful speaker, LaJoyce Martin! Have any of you read any of her books? She is a wonderful speaker and writer! She is from around here, but is now in Oklahoma. Wow, we had a great time! That morning we did our Sunday School Visitation (visited all of our kids) and before that we did our Pastor's Enrollment Program. We are making that an annual May program. It is a wonderful program the Lord put on my Pastor's heart a few years ago in Louisiana! It works great. It is a blessing to the community as you provide a service to them for funerals, weddings, prayer, bible studies if wanted. They receive a newsletter and all is free. They are not actual members but are prayed for and loved without any conditions! It is a great outreach to the community. So many do not have a church or anyone to pray for them!
Oh, and we even got a garage sale in somewhere in this mix! It was a full day and then I went home and studied for my Sunday School Class! Wow!
I think that is all I will post about right now!
Oh, of course we have been doing our Jericho Drive!!! Praise the Lord!! We are starting to see the results!! I will post more on this later!
God Bless,
Trish

OK! Here goes! Part 2 of May!
Well, to begin with May started with a bang! My nephew and his wife renewed their vows on their 10th anniversary and they did it big! I was involved with some of the decorating and had to be there early. I helped arrange the reception hall and decorate the tables and decorate the wedding cake, and and and! A lot of work but it was beautiful!

Oh, of course! MOTHER'S DAY! I had my children over to my house, but they fixed the meal! It was grand! I got a lot of love that day! (and gifts from them! WOW) My husband and I are Sunday School teachers, so we had to be there for the kids. They had a great SS, and learned how to Honor there Mothers as exampled in the bible! Then, we had a little gift giving to our Pastor's wives, ok, no, not 2 wives, 2 Pastors and 2 wives! LOL, actually, they are Father and son and both former missionaries, just off the mission fields about a year and a half ago! They are all wonderful and actually old friends! We are all here starting a Home Missions Church! Rev. Jerry Miller is off the Mission Field of Mexico, and before that Guyana, South America, he was the Regional Evangelist of Central Mexico, his son, Rev. Loren Miller is off the Mission field of Antigua (Caribbean Islands). They are wonderful Pastors! They have experienced some awesome things on the missions fields! I will have to tell some of their stories sometimes! Anyway, a little off the subject, Mother's Day, my husband and I had gotten them both corsages and beautiful cards and something else, I can't even remember no, that's why it doesn't pay me to wait this long to post! LOL!
It was a great day with my kids! Great meal, and great fun! I really hope all of you had just as great a day as I did!
God Bless,
Trish

Hello, all of you beautiful people!
May has been a little bit of a crazy month for me! I am just now seeming to get over here! I've been trying to re-organize my workshop and I'm still not through! I get side-tracked all the time, but with things that are priorities and wonderful, so I am not complaining! The last 2 weeks have been busy. My church has begun what is called a Jericho Drive and we have been doing this every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings from 9:00am to usually about 11:00am. This is a prayer drive, sort of like a prayer walk but in a car, around our city. This is likened to the story in the Bible about the walls of Jericho coming down. After going around the city once a day for 6 days and praying for all of the city and for the strongholds of satan to come down (just like the walls of Jericho), we will go around the 7th day 7 times and the strongholds WILL COME DOWN! Amen! Revival WILL TAKE PLACE! There have already been results in other churches! Praise the Lord!
I am going to take each subject this month and put it into a different blog! I have a lot to talk about this month! (So as not to make one blog so long and hard to read!)
God Bless,
Trish

THE SURVIVAL INSTINCT

A Lifestyle of Learning!
I am in a perpetual state of learning right now…I am like a dry sponge soaking up all the information I can find. I don’t profess to have arrived, but I am seeking and searching and learning… Life is fragile right now… The economy could get better or it could get worse. Some say let’s be prepared for the worst… I say, “Let’s prepare so that no matter what happens it will be better…life will be better, more fulfilling, enriched, and just plain fun…!" Enjoy the feel of dirt in your hands, the taste of fresh vegetables you grew on your own little spot of earth. Take hold of and cherish the moments of time spent learning how to bake and how to use herbs and any handcrafted items that are useful in everyday living or earning a living!! Share the knowledge you have gleaned with your daughters and sons! Learn…Learn…Learn…Teach…Teach…Teach… Learn to be truly self-sufficient ( or at least to some degree)… It just really feels good to know that if all else fails, you can take care of you and your family… Just that knowledge, alone, is “happiness immeasurable!” I will be posting information below and updating video tutorials as often as I can! All information will have the authors and links to their web pages for more information on each subject discussed!

GREEN BUILDING DESIGN: "BUILDING WITH AWARENESS" by Ted Owens: http://www.buildingwithawareness.com/Movies2.html I found a great site with great information and a DVD on Straw Bale Construction, etc!
Reviews:

Jerry Hutton alternative energies expert Director of the Fuel Cells and Alternative Fuels Training Center at Hocking College "Ted Owens, in his "Building with Awareness" DVD, has taken the process of "Green Building Design" to the next level in both the construction and operations of the home. I highly recommend these construction techniques for anyone interested in implementing truly sustainable designs."

And another:

"I spent last weekend watching the Building with Awareness DVD. As soon as I was finished. I watched it again! This extremely informative and beautiful video, as far as I know, is the first of its kind. At least, the first green building video I have been able to find with the building process laid out step by step in a simple and very visual format. I'm ecstatic to have found Syncronos Design!" —C.
